A bridge crane is a type of crane that runs on an elevated track, also known as a gantry crane. Its lifting trolley runs horizontally along the track of the gantry crane, which can make full use of the space under the bridge crane to lift materials without being hindered by ground equipment. A gantry crane is a variation of a bridge crane, also known as a gantry crane. The following points can be used to distinguish between bridge cranes and gantry cranes:

1. The structure of the crane

The structure of a bridge crane is divided into a steel structure, a mechanical transmission part, and an electrical part. The steel structure part consists of a bridge frame and a trolley frame, and the bridge frame consists of a main beam, an end beam, a platform, a guardrail, and an operating room. The trolley consists of a frame and a railing; the mechanical transmission part consists of a trolley running mechanism, a trolley running mechanism, and a lifting mechanism; the electrical part consists of electrical lines and electrical equipment.

A gantry crane is generally a lifting equipment with a door-like frame structure, with outriggers installed under the main beam and a walking mechanism. It can walk directly on the ground track, and both ends of the main beam can have an outrigger cantilever beam. Gantry cranes are composed of gantry, trolley travel mechanism and electrical parts. The gantry is composed of main beam, legs and cross beam; the trolley is composed of wheel box and reducer motor; the electrical part includes operating room and cable.

2. Hoisting of cranes

Bridge cranes are mainly used in workshops, warehouses and cargo yards for loading and unloading goods. The lifting capacity is a fixed amount, ranging from a few tons to hundreds of tons.

Gantry cranes are mainly used in outdoor material yards such as warehouses, stations, ports and docks for loading and unloading of goods. Carrying single or large and heavy goods.

3. Advantages and disadvantages of cranes

Bridge cranes have large lifting capacity, fast speed and high efficiency; but bridge piers need to be built at the loading and unloading site, which increases costs. During operation, goods can only be hoisted within the span, and the operating area is small.

Gantry cranes have high site utilization, large operating range, wide adaptability, strong versatility, and can be used in port cargo yard
